Look for winter waterfowl along the South Platte.

Description

PLEASE NOTE: You must register for this field trip (limit: 8 people) and complete the liability form when you register. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed. Other requirements are described below.

See what ducks can be found on the South Platte as they arrive from northern climes. We'll walk 2 to 3 miles along the river near C-470, on both paved and dirt trails, and possibly encounter mergansers, Green-winged Teal, and Northern Pintail. Birders of all abilities are welcome. Adults only, please.

Be sure to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hats and binoculars (a few pairs are available to borrow). Please note that this field trip is not accessible to those with mobility challenges.

We'll meet at the Blackrock Lake Parking Lot, which is east of South Platte Reservoir north of C-470. Please see this map for directions to the parking lot. Let's go birding!

-Masks Outdoors: Masks are not required outdoors. However, we encourage unvaccinated people to wear a mask when interacting with people outside their household when outdoors and maintain social distancing of six feet.
-Masks Indoors: We strongly recommend everyone, including fully vaccinated persons, wear a mask in all public indoor spaces and maintain social distancing of six feet when interacting with people outside their household.
