Summary

As part of Denver Audubon’s 50 Year Anniversary, we are sponsoring a Birding Contest in 6 Metro Denver counties! Can you find the most birds in our 6-county area? Join the fun, win prizes, and explore the great birding sites around us. Plan to attend a viewing of the movie “The Big Year” and talk to the author Mark Obmascik!! More information and updates will be posted throughout 2019. Let's make Denver the most Bird Friendly City in the country!

Description

Contest Guidelines:​

  • Our Big Year starts 12:00 AM on 01/01/2019 and ends 11:59 PM on 12/31/2019.​
  • Identify bird species in any/all of 6 Colorado counties– Jefferson, Denver, Adams, Broomfield, Arapahoe, and/or Douglas.  There will be 1 winner per county.​
  • Register for this event with Denver Audubon (denveraudubon.org)​
    • Registration cost $10 per person.
    • Stay tuned for ebird classes and tutorials.​
    • Sign up for Denver Audubon field trips to hone your birding skills!​
  • Record your sightings using ebird from your app or on your home computer.​
    • Create account at  ebird.org if you don’t already have one.​
    • We will be using ebird’s Top 100  (ebird.org/top100) to track monthly progress so do NOT hide your data nor setup as “Anonymous eBirder”.​
    • Each recorded species must be on American Birding Association (ABA) Checklist.​
    • Submitting your data makes you a Community Scientist!
  • At the end of the year front-runners will be asked to download their ebird yearly report and send to Denver Audubon so that we can verify winners.
