Friday, August 3 through Sunday, August 5.

We will rendezvous at Empire at noon on Friday, then off to Walden via Berthoud Pass with stops at Windy Gap and Walden Reservoir. On Saturday morning, we will head to the boardwalk at Arapahoe Wildlife Refuge then spend the afternoon at Lake John. We hope to see western and eared grebes with chicks on their backs, as well as nesting American white pelican, Forster’s tern, grassland sparrows, and nesting bald eagles. On our walking tour of historic Walden, we will get close-up views of Common Nighthawks & Great Horned-Owls. Sunday, we will caravan through North Park to the Moose Visitor’s Center feeders to see hummingbirds, pine grosbeaks, and moose. The trip ends at Fort Collins via Poudre Canyon, over Cameron Pass while birding along the way. In Fort Collins, we’ll check out birding hotspots in the area. Bring camera gear (leader has photo tips for digiscoping), binoculars, scopes, and 2-way radios. Expect to see 100 species. Stay overnight on Friday and Saturday nights at the Chedsey Inn in Walden. Carpooling is recommended with fuel costs shared among occupants.
