Summary

Walk for about 3 miles along the South Platte River exploring ponds, riparian forest, and grassland habitats for resident and migratory birds as the season dictates. We always have a surprise! This is a great opportunity to learn about the birds of the Denver area. Beginners are welcome. Trails are moderately easy, but do contain rocks, tree roots and poison ivy.  Bring a scope if you have one; some loaner equipment may be available.

Description

Walk along the South Platte River exploring ponds and habitats for resident and migrant birds as the season dictates. We always have a surprise! This is a great opportunity to learn about the birds of the Denver area. Bring a scope and field guide if you have them. We can lend you binoculars and field guides if you don’t have them. You may now download the Chatfield Bird List to carry with and record your birds for the day. Activity level: Some of the trails are narrow and moderately steep for a few feet. Elevation 5430 ft.

Meeting Place: Parking lot at the Audubon Center at Chatfield. The Audubon Center is located on Waterton Road, 4.4 miles south of C-470 and Wadsworth.
