Park Hill Park - Denver Audubon Bird Project (Co-sponsored trip with DFO)

This recurring field trip, supporting the Denver Audubon Denver Bird Project, is part of collective effort by the organization to understand and protect Denver's urban wildlife. The 155 acre Park has, for the most part, been undisturbed, and generally underbirded due to inaccessibility, since the Park Hill Golf Course closed in 2018.

This month, we hope to see vegetation in the large stormwater wetlands retention area and associated drainage and pond at the north and east areas of the park support late  summer fledgling species.  An improved sprinkler system have encouraged wild and weedy vegetation within the park.   In addition to mature trees throughout, and there are feeders in the SE area of the park at the adjacent homes.  The neighborhood is friendly and social - and love to discuss the birds and other wildlife!    There is  almost no historical data (see bar chart) for Aug, Sept, Oct., it is important to fill in these gaps as the use, vegetation, and visitation habits have been altered.      

Wear layers, good shoes, a hat, sunscreen, bring water and a snack, binoculars and a camera if you wish. Rated easy, although there will be quite a bit of weedy bushwacking on generally level ground. There are no toilets at the Park, come prepared!
