Enjoy a 3-hour bird outing at Castlewood Canyon's State Park's less traveled East Canyon Trail. The East Canyon Trail is 4 miles long, but we will go as far as time allows us in the three hours - likely 2+ miles. The trail is moderate starting on the mesa top and descending to Cherry Creek. The overall trail is not steep, but there are places on the trail that are rocky and has steps with steep inclines and declines. We'll focus on birds and native plants and discuss how they evolved with insects to benefit birds. Some of the birds we have seen before on the East Canyon Trail include American Goldfinch, Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Cliff Swallow, Lazuli Bunting, Plumbeous Vireo, Turkey Vulture, and Pygmy Nuthatch, among others. Bring hiking shoes, water, snacks, hat, and insect repellent. Park pass required for all vehicles.

Trip leaders are Robert and Heather Sanchez.
