Description
Learn how to decipher, by sound and sight, four species of hummingbirds that migrate through Colorado from mid-summer into fall. Broad-tailed, Black-chinned, Rufous, and Calliope hummingbirds should all be present during this trip. Learn how to identify each species by their chip notes, wing trills, and courtship display sounds, along with their field marks, bill shapes, head shapes, and behaviors. Identifying them isn’t always easy, especially when females and juveniles are involved. We’ll also have the chance to see other mountain birds at the multitude of feeders there.
This trip is led by Alison Kondler and Raymond Davis.
