Description

What can bird vocalizations teach us about behavior, evolution, and the natural world?

Dr. Lauryn Benedict is a professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado and a leading researcher in animal communication and social behavior, using bird song as a window into how signals evolve in nature. Her work explores how individual birds use vocalizations in different environmental and social contexts, and how bird sounds change across time and geography, both within and between species. Through a combination of field observation, population monitoring, and sound recording analysis, Dr. Benedict studies the function and evolution of male and female vocalizations in a wide range of birds, including parrots, Colorado wrens, New World sparrows, and Old World warblers. Join us and learn why listening closely matters!
