Feeder Watchers - Douglas County Christmas Bird Count

Did you know that you can participate in the Christmas Bird Count from home, if you are located within the count circle? View a map of the count circle here to see if you are located within. 

On December 27, watch your feeders and submit your observations to contribute to the count! Instructions on how to do so are simple:

1. At any time on December 27, watch your feeder and record your observations. The most important things to record are:
   • How long you observe the feeder 
   • Number of observers
   • Which species you saw and how many of each 
     • Avoid re-counting individual birds: do this by simply recording the largest number of each species seen simultaneously during observations. For example, if you see 1 Blue Jay and then later see 2 Blue Jays, you only record 2 Blue Jays (not 3). 
2. Submit the above information. You will have the option to do so via eBird or via email. Specific instructions will be sent a few days before the count.
