Description
Denver Audubon is proud to partner with the High Line Canal Conservancy for October Big Day Birding! A ”Big Day” is a special birding holiday that encourages nature lovers around the world to get outside and look for birds. Last year almost 75,000 people from 201 countries participated in October Big Day on eBird to create a global snapshot of bird abundance and distribution.
The High Line Canal is a corridor of green space that many migrating birds rely on when moving through the Denver area to rest and refuel for their long journeys. During peak migration season more than 100,000 migrating birds fly over Denver every night!
No experience or birding knowledge is needed to join! Bird fans of all ages and abilities are welcome. Each walk will be led by an experienced birder who will record all of the birds we see into eBird.
- What to bring: Water and walking shoes. Grab your binoculars, camera, or any other birding gear if you have it!
- Accessibility: The Canal trail is flat crushed gravel or concrete. We will be walking around 2 miles or less with frequent stopping to stand still. There are occasional benches in some areas, but many areas do not have frequent benches. All locations have access to toilets at the trailhead, but some toilets are portable.
- Note: Due to the shy nature of many birds, we ask that you leave your pets at home for this walk. Service animals are always welcome. Dogs are not permitted in Waterton Canyon to protect the bighorn sheep.
