Come see something special! We will watch White-throated Swifts attending their roost site at the end of the day. Swifts are done nesting for the season, but migrants passing through Jefferson County use a certain crack in the Lyons Formation hogback above Deer Creek for their roost. From late Sept to very early October they have been seen at this roost in large numbers of 100-300 birds. We hope to view he pre-roost flight activity and then witness their entry into the roost. It is a nature spectacle. We'll discuss swift ecology and learn about this fascinating bird. Bring a layer for evening cool. We will spend much of the time standing in one area as we watch. Rain or poor weather may cancel.

This trip is led by David Suddjian.

Meet at the South Trailhead parking lot for South Valley Park. From C470 take Wadsworth Blvd south, then right (west) on W. Deer Creek Canyon Road. Proceed west on Deer Creek Canyon Road to the South Valley Park South Trailhead lot on the right after passing Cougar Road.
