For this field trip we’ll be exploring the Pawnee National Grasslands, Crow Valley Campground and the town of Briggsdale. We’ll start in Briggsdale to look for Mountain Plover and the drive the Pawnee Grasslands auto tour looking for grassland birds like the Thick-billed and Chestnut-collared Longspur. We’ll stop for lunch and do some birding the Crow Valley Campground to look for migrants. We’ll do some birding on foot, mainly at the Crow Valley Campground. In other areas will be in and out of vehicles birding along the road.

Birders of all experience levels are welcome. We will carpool in two vehicles from our meeting location. We’ll need two volunteers to drive. Bring water, snacks, and lunch. Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, your binoculars, and a camera if you like. Restrooms will be available at a gas station in Kersey on the way and then again at the Crow Valley Campground. There is a $9 per vehicle fee for entry into the Crow Valley Campground. Also, for driving trips like this DFO recommends mileage reimbursement to volunteer carpool drivers of $0.50/mile divided by the number of persons in the car. This amount may be optionally reduced at the discretion of a driver. Riders should please come prepared to reimburse the driver at the conclusion of the field trip. The estimated cost is $25 to $33 per person .

Led by Jason Bidgood.

Meeting spot: Meet at parking lot at the south end of Lark Bunting Lane (note: this is not the usual Barr Lake SP meeting place). From the Bromley Lane exit off I-76, drive east on E 152nd Ave across the railroad tracks and take an immediate right onto Lark Bunting Lane. State Parks pass or day pass required.
