Founded in 1908 as the company town for a DuPont dynamite factory (closed in 1980s), Louviers ("Loo-VEERS") today is a leafy haven of quiet streets and numerous songbirds, bluebirds, woodpeckers, flycatchers, and other species, both migrants and summer residents. Birds visit feeders and yards of bird-loving residents and inhabit lush woods and meadows in DuPont Open Space along Plum Creek. Wood Ducks also breed in woods around off-limits pond refuge (fenced but viewable).

We will walk along hard paths and sidewalks for 3 to 4 miles.  There are a couple of moderate slopes.  Bring water, snacks and sun protection, and dress for the weather (including long pants for grassy open space woods). There is a restroom at the meeting spot.

Meeting spot: eet at DuPont Park in Louviers, CO. Directions: Take Santa Fe Drive (US 85) south to C-470 -- or C-470 to Santa Fe/85 exit. Continue south 6.5 miles on Santa Fe / US 85 to Louviers exit ("Louviers" sign on right just past semi-trailer yards). Turn right onto West Louviers Avenue, which becomes Main. Continue 1.5 miles on Main, crossing 2 RR tracks and winding down across Louviers bridge over Plum Creek into town. Stay left past grassy triangle. Where road ahead begins to climb right, turn left at DuPont Park sign and drive along wooden fence to parking lot.
