Summary
Description
This outing aims to see various waterfowl and songbirds migrating through Colorado at Standley Lake. We will ideally be on the north shores of the lake for most of the outing, but may also venture along some of the trails seeking species like Western Meadowlarks if there aren't many waterfowl visible from that angle on this specific day. I would estimate around 1 mile of walking distance total during the trip.
Because we will be looking for waterfowl at a distance, we encourage you to bring a traveler's scope or spotter's scope for this event! We will provide at least 1 ourselves (likely more) to share with the group, but the more the merrier. Standard binoculars are still encouraged.
SURFACE CONDITIONS: Standley Lake may present challenges for those with mobility issues, especially those in standard wheelchairs or reliant on walkers or similar aides. Much of the trail from the parking lot to the shore is hilly, uneven, and sandy, while the shore itself is primarily grassy sand. If you have any questions about the surface conditions of this location, please contact Ryan Laney (trip leader) directly at 303-868-3942.
Plan to meet at the parking lot at the intersection of W 100th Ave & Owens St. in Westminster (northeast of Coyote Gulch Campground on Google Maps). A link to the location on Google Maps can also be found below. The parking lot tends to still have space at 8am most weekends, but street-side parking is available in the nearby neighborhoods if necessary -- it may just require a short walk to and from.
