Summary

Enjoy a 2-hour spring bird outing in Douglas County’s Dupont Open Space in Louviers.

Description

Join guest field trip leader Leslie Clemensen for a spring bird outing in Douglas County’s Dupont Open Space in Louviers. Leslie is an Audubon Community Naturalist who is active in Douglas County birding projects, which includes serving as the team lead for monitoring bluebird boxes at Dupont. She also leads bird walks for Wild Birds Unlimited and is a certified Backyard Bird Feeding Specialist.

Louviers is a charming and historic area with multiple habitats for birds and wildlife – riparian habitat beside Plum Creek, a pond, cottonwood woodland, and open grassland. We will be looking for Blue Jays, Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay, and Bluebirds, plus some spring migrants like Yellow-rumped Warblers and Western Meadowlarks.

The trails we will be walking on are a combination of hard surfaces with mild slopes and trails through the woodlands, which are uneven and can be muddy.
April weather is unpredictable, so plan to dress in layers and prepare for the unexpected.

We will email all participants with final trip details a few days prior. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at jgwinn53@aol.com. Advance registration, including signing of the liability waiver, is required. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed.

Meeting Location: Meet at the parking lot at Dupont Park, 8020 Main St., Louviers, CO 80131.

Trip Leaders: Julia Gwinn and Leslie Clemensen.
