Hi, I'm Grant, a fifteen year-old who's been birding for five years now. My spark bird was the Western Tanager(which is why we are Team Tanager). I love everything about birds, from difficult identifications to conservation efforts and avian preservation. I'm currently conducting a research and conservation project on the Brown-Capped Rosy-Finch in collaboration with the Denver Audubon and Colorado Parks and Wildlife! This year's Birdathon will be my first ever Big Day, so I have an ambitious goal of seeing 100 unique species and 10 lifers(species I've never seen before) in 24 hours. Special thanks to my parents for their constant support and driving me across the state in pursuit of birds.
I will be birding on May 29th(unless weather dictates otherwise), starting with pre-sunrise birding at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat in Boulder, with hopes to see some owls and passage migrants. Then, we will head to Barr Lake State Park and Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Widllife Refuge in search of waterfowl, passage migrants, spring/summer warblers and tanagers, and more. After a short lunch break, we will continue birding at Cherry Creek and Chatfield State Park and shortly thereafter, we will head to Staunton State Park to spot some mountain birds in the foothills. We will end the day by tracking down any rarities and spending dusk and the last hours of the day searching for owls.
