Summary
Description
This trip will combine birding along Colorado 103 and the Mt Blue Sky Scenic Byway with a second focus on learning to identify and appreciate the various conifer tree species that occur in our Front Range region forests. **Note: we will not go to Mt Blue Sky on this trip; the road there is closed for repair. We will ascend from about 8,000 feet near Evergreen to about 11,000 feet and learn to identify nine different tree species in the forests as we climb higher in elevation. Special study materials will be provided to participants to enrich this part of our effort. A variety of forest birds may be found, including possible American Three-toed Woodpecker, Pine Grosbeak, Canada Jay, Red Crossbill, Red-naped Sapsucker, Brown Creeper and Townsend's Solitaire. We will carpool from the meeting spot. There are restroom opportunities at intervals. Bring lunch, snacks and drinks, sunscreen, hat and sturdy shoes
This trip is led by David Suddjian.
Meeting spot: Meet at the Stegosaurus parking lot just south of I-70, exit 259. Drive under the freeway to the second left turn. The parking lot is at the base of the Hogback, near the Hawk Watch location.
