An all-day trip to Weld County hotspots

Description

This is a co-sponsored trip with Denver Field Ornithologists. Registration is on the DFO page and will open on 4/28/25 at 12 Noon.  Click here to view the event registration page

This trip will travel to a series of hotspots in the Kersey region of central Weld County to look for shorebirds and study shorebird ID, as well as enjoying a wide variety of other migrant and nesting water birds and land birds. We will be at a great time of the season for shorebird variety, and we might also see ibis, herons and egrets, ducks, maybe five species of swallows, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Eared Grebe, Swainson's Hawk Marsh Wren and lots more. We will carpool from the meeting spot in two cars, and two volunteer drivers will be needed. Bring lunch, snacks and drinks. Restrooms will be available at a few gas station stops. Bring a scope if you have one.

This trip is led by David Suddjian.

Meeting spot: Meet at parking lot at the south end of Lark Bunting Lane (note: this is not the usual Barr Lake SP meeting place). From the Bromley Lane exit off I-76, drive east on E 152nd Ave across the railroad tracks and take an immediate right onto Lark Bunting Lane. State Parks pass or day pass required.
